Florida Coastal Prep’s Coastal team was held to 48 points in a 48-56 road defeat at BCAT Black on Sunday, an eight-point loss in which the offense could not find a consistent groove against a defense that limited the Spartans to their lowest scoring output of the season.
BCAT Black proved difficult to solve on Sunday. Their defensive scheme compressed FCP’s driving lanes and contested perimeter shots effectively, holding the Coastal team more than 30 points below their season-high output. The Spartans generated enough possessions to stay competitive — 48 points is not a shutdown in terms of efficiency — but converting at a lower-than-normal clip while playing away from home on a Sunday afternoon created a compounding problem. BCAT Black’s offense, meanwhile, was patient and purposeful, which is a difficult combination to manage when your own offensive engine is not firing on all cylinders. The eight-point final margin was not a blowout, but it was also not the kind of close loss where one sequence changes the result.
The Coastal team heads into its final stretch of February games having split its road results on the season. The squad’s win over DME Gold in early January remains the signature result of the year, and the development arc from November’s season opener to February’s competitive losses reflects real growth. The road loss to BCAT Black is a challenge, not a ceiling. Updates on the Coastal team’s remaining schedule can be found on Instagram at @flcoastalprep.
