Florida Coastal Prep’s National team got back in the win column Saturday with a 53-47 road victory over CPCA, a result earned through defensive discipline and composure in a game that was tight through the final buzzer.
Six points is not a comfortable margin, and neither team made it one. The game was physical and contested throughout, with both defenses making offense a deliberate process. FCP’s National squad — playing away from Fort Walton Beach for the second time in four days — settled in as the game progressed and found ways to generate clean looks in the half-court. The 53-47 final was the product of a team that refused to let the game slip away despite its defense-first environment. Possessions in close games like this one come down to rotations, rebounds, and shot selection, and the Spartans made enough of the right decisions to close it out in the final minutes.
The win is particularly meaningful given the National team came into Saturday on the heels of a difficult 51-93 loss at SE Prep just four days earlier. Bouncing back on the road at this level of post-grad competition requires mental toughness, and FCP’s squad demonstrated it. The 1-1 record through the early portion of the schedule gives the team something to build on as the SIAA slate intensifies heading into winter.
