Florida Coastal Prep’s Sunshine team headed to Balboa School on Friday and came away with a 62-50 road victory, the squad’s third win of the young season and its first away from the Emerald Coast.
Road wins carry weight at this level of prep basketball, and the 12-point margin against Balboa School was not a product of luck. FCP’s Sunshine team executed on the defensive end with consistency that has now become a pattern through the early portion of the schedule — opponents have not cracked 80 points in any of the three games this group has played. The offense was efficient rather than explosive in this one, converting on high-percentage opportunities and protecting the ball in a game environment that invited turnovers. Balboa School made a push at multiple points, but the Spartans absorbed every run and answered with productive possessions of their own.
The Sunshine team heads into the holiday break with a 3-0 record, one of the more impressive starts in the program’s recent history for this particular squad. That unbeaten mark carries meaning heading into the heavier portion of the SIAA schedule in January and February, when roster depth, conditioning, and preparation become the determining factors.
