Combine Academy is a basketball-focused prep and post-grad program operating across two campuses in Lincolnton and Mooresville, North Carolina. Combine has built a modest pipeline to Southeastern college programs and competes on some of the same prep circuits as FCP. It is a smaller program with less established coaching credentials and a standard gym setup rather than a dedicated training center.

Coaching Credentials
The most important factor in a player’s development is the quality of coaching they receive every day.
FCP’s coaching staff centers on two things the program is built around: basketball experience and relationship-driven development. NBA All-Star Kenny Anderson — the 1991 second overall NBA Draft pick, 14-year NBA veteran, and 1994 All-Star — serves as Skills Development Director. Kenny works directly with players in daily skill sessions, film study, and game preparation. Director Lee DeForest brings over 25 years of coaching across D1, D2, NAIA, and JUCO programs. The full staff includes a Director of Recruiting (Rico Overall, UCF graduate with Indiana Fever scouting experience), Head Skills Coach Tyler Martin, and PG Director Vando Becheli — a Brazilian professional coaching veteran who assisted with the 2016 Rio Olympics.
No coaching staff at the post-grad level in this price range can point to an active NBA All-Star on the floor with players every day. That credential is real, and it matters when college coaches are evaluating where recruits have been trained.
Combine Academy does not have an equivalent NBA-level coaching credential on staff. Their program has produced college players, but the depth and pedigree of the coaching roster is not in the same category as FCP’s.
ESPN’s Director of Recruiting, Paul Biancardi, visited the FCP campus and called it “first class treatment of players.” That kind of endorsement from a national media figure in recruiting is not something most programs can claim at any price point.
Facility
FCP’s Spartan Training Center is a purpose-built, 14,000 sq ft indoor basketball training facility with 24/7 access. It features an NBA-dimension hardwood court (94x50 ft), shot clocks, two Shoot-Away shooting guns, a 60 ft turf training zone, and a dedicated performance zone. The entire facility exists for one purpose: basketball player development.
Combine Academy operates out of a standard gymnasium. There is nothing wrong with a standard gym — most college programs train in gyms — but there is a real difference between a standard facility and a dedicated training center built from the ground up for basketball development. When a player’s family is investing tens of thousands of dollars, the training environment matters.
Location and Training Climate
This is one of the most overlooked factors in choosing a post-grad program.
FCP is in Fort Walton Beach, Florida — on the Emerald Coast, adjacent to Eglin Air Force Base, with mild year-round weather that allows continuous outdoor activity and a training culture shaped by the discipline of the surrounding military community. Players can train 12 months a year without weather interruptions. The Florida Panhandle location also puts FCP within reach of SEC, AAC, and Sun Belt programs that actively recruit from FCP’s pipeline.
Combine Academy sits in landlocked North Carolina. Cold winters disrupt training continuity and limit year-round conditioning. For a post-grad year where every week of development counts, losing months of outdoor training time is a meaningful disadvantage. North Carolina is also farther removed from the Florida-based college programs that most post-grad players are targeting.
College Placement
FCP has placed athletes at every level of college basketball over seven seasons — D1 conferences including the SEC and Big East, D2, NAIA, and JUCO programs. Alumni have reached the NBA G-League. Every FCP athlete receives an individual recruiting plan, professional game film, national event exposure, and direct outreach to college coaching staffs.
FCP competes in the Grind Session — a league where FCP athletes compete alongside and against former NBA Draft picks, overseas professionals, and top collegiate talent. That exposure level matters when college coaches are watching game film.
Combine Academy has built a post-grad pipeline with some Southeastern recruiting exposure. They compete on overlapping circuits including the Grind Session. Both programs send players to college. The difference is in the depth of the coaching relationship, the breadth of the staff’s college connections across all divisions, and the quality of the environment players are developing in day-to-day.
An Honest Note About Combine
One of FCP’s own coaches, Head Skill Development Coach Tyler Martin, is a former Combine Academy post-grad athlete. He went from being a player at Combine to joining the FCP staff — which tells you something about how players who have experienced both programs evaluate them. Tyler went on to play NCAA DII at the University of Montevallo and Stillman College.
