Florida Coastal Prep is proud to announce that guard Hikaru Awata has officially committed to Troy University, an NCAA Division I program competing in the Sun Belt Conference. 🎉
Hikaru’s journey from Hachioji Gakuen High School in Japan to the NCAA Division I level is a powerful example of what happens when international talent meets elite-level development. He traveled halfway around the world to train on the Gulf Coast of Florida, and that bet on himself has paid off in a major way.
From Japan to the Sun Belt
Troy University, located in Troy, Alabama, competes in the Sun Belt Conference — one of the strongest mid-major conferences in the nation. The Trojans have a storied basketball tradition and consistently compete for conference championships and NCAA Tournament bids.
For Hikaru, this commitment represents more than just a roster spot. It’s a full Division I opportunity earned through relentless daily work at FCP, where he sharpened his game under the guidance of our coaching staff and competed against top-level talent every day in practice.
International Pipeline Continues
Hikaru joins a growing list of international athletes who have used Florida Coastal Prep as their launchpad to NCAA basketball. From the Netherlands to Brazil, South Sudan to Croatia — and now Japan — FCP has become a destination for global talent looking to earn college scholarships in the United States.
“Hikaru came in with incredible work ethic and a willingness to compete every single day. Troy is getting a skilled, disciplined guard who will make an immediate impact.” — FCP Coaching Staff
Back-to-Back Trojans
Hikaru follows FCP alum Austin Cross, who also committed to Troy University — making this the second consecutive Spartan to join the Trojans’ program. When a D1 coaching staff keeps coming back to the same prep program, it speaks volumes about the level of talent and development happening at FCP.
Congratulations, Hikaru! 🏀
The entire Florida Coastal Prep family is proud of you. From Hachioji to Troy — your journey is just getting started.
