About Lewis & Clark Community College Basketball

Lewis & Clark Community College is a junior college program that delivers genuine playing time and meaningful development for guards and forwards willing to compete hard in a competitive conference. Head coach Kavon Lacey runs a straightforward operation in the Southern Illinois Athletic Conference—not a pipeline to Power Five schools, but a solid stepping stone for players serious about improving their game and earning a four-year opportunity. What works here is clarity of purpose. You'll get real minutes, real coaching feedback, and real chances to prove yourself against NJCAA competition. The program values consistency, basketball IQ, and effort. If you're a player who fell out of a recruiting conversation or need a reset after a year away from serious competition, this is the kind of place that can rebuild your profile. Lewis & Clark also delivers on the academic side—you're earning credits that transfer cleanly and staying eligible while you develop. The conference schedule is competitive enough that performance translates when scouts evaluate film. Lacey's teams play disciplined basketball and develop fundamentals that four-year programs recognize. This isn't about hype or promises. It's about honest evaluation, consistent opportunity, and a path forward. If you're ready to compete every day and show improvement over two years, this program will support that work. Players who arrive at college campus-ready—technically polished and physically prepared—get noticed faster. Florida Coastal Prep's post-graduate program in Fort Walton Beach, FL is built to close that gap. Learn more at floridacoastalprep.com or visit /apply/ to start the conversation.

Getting recruited at this level requires more than raw talent — coaches need to see your film at the right moment, your eligibility paperwork must be in order, and your tournament exposure has to match the standard the program is recruiting to.

How JUCO Basketball Recruiting Works

Junior college coaches recruit differently than NCAA Division I staffs. Walk-on tryouts are common, signing windows extend later into the spring, and roster turnover is higher — meaning open spots exist year-round. Most NJCAA programs recruit locally first, but players who demonstrate film improvement and consistent development get evaluated regardless of geography.

NJCAA eligibility runs through the Eligibility Center but uses a separate certification process from the NCAA. There is no sliding scale — you need a high school diploma or GED, and 48 semester hours of transfer credit satisfies most transfer requirements to four-year programs. Academic eligibility requirements are generally more flexible than NCAA standards.

If you are building toward a four-year transfer, treat your JUCO year as a proving ground, not a fallback. Coaches at D1, D2, and NAIA programs actively watch JUCO film. Players who earn significant minutes in competitive NJCAA regions get evaluated.
