About McHenry County College Basketball

You need to be ready before you step on McHenry County's court. Head coach Rashim Lettsome builds rosters with players who understand that junior college is a proving ground, not a pause button. This NJCAA program in the Northern Illinois Athletic Conference demands accountability from day one. McHenry County doesn't wait for potential to develop—it accelerates it. You'll compete against regional opponents who are hungry for tournament spots. The program prioritizes ball movement, defensive intensity, and players who can fill roles without ego. Your game will be tested. Your fitness will be pushed. Your basketball IQ will be refined. Lettsome recruits competitors. He develops two-year track records that attract four-year programs and scouts. If you're serious about using your junior college years as a launch pad, not a landing spot, this is the environment for you. Your window to improve is now. McHenry County's schedule and conference play won't wait for you to get ready—you show up ready. That's the standard. That's the expectation. The recruiting process rewards players who can demonstrate consistent growth and readiness. Florida Coastal Prep's training environment in Fort Walton Beach, FL is designed to produce exactly that profile. Explore the program at floridacoastalprep.com.

Getting recruited at this level requires more than raw talent — coaches need to see your film at the right moment, your eligibility paperwork must be in order, and your tournament exposure has to match the standard the program is recruiting to.

How JUCO Basketball Recruiting Works

Junior college coaches recruit differently than NCAA Division I staffs. Walk-on tryouts are common, signing windows extend later into the spring, and roster turnover is higher — meaning open spots exist year-round. Most NJCAA programs recruit locally first, but players who demonstrate film improvement and consistent development get evaluated regardless of geography.

NJCAA eligibility runs through the Eligibility Center but uses a separate certification process from the NCAA. There is no sliding scale — you need a high school diploma or GED, and 48 semester hours of transfer credit satisfies most transfer requirements to four-year programs. Academic eligibility requirements are generally more flexible than NCAA standards.

If you are building toward a four-year transfer, treat your JUCO year as a proving ground, not a fallback. Coaches at D1, D2, and NAIA programs actively watch JUCO film. Players who earn significant minutes in competitive NJCAA regions get evaluated.
