Florida Coastal Prep’s Sunshine team survived one of the most dramatic results of the 2025-26 season Thursday night, edging 212 Academy 82-80 on a last-second basket at home to preserve a perfect record that looked uncertain for most of the fourth quarter.
The game came down to a single possession, which is a test very few unbeaten teams manage to pass cleanly. FCP trailed or was tied in the final minutes after 212 Academy — a physically capable opponent that came into the Spartan facility playing its best basketball — made a decisive second-half push. The Sunshine squad needed composure it had not been tested for all season to stay in it, and the team delivered. The winning basket fell with time expired, sending the home crowd into a reaction that underscored how much an unbeaten record means at this stage of a prep season. Both teams played to 82 and 80 points respectively, which meant the defense from either side had enough cracks to keep every possession meaningful from start to finish.
A 6-0 record entering February is one of the stronger starts among Florida prep programs in this competitive tier. The Sunshine team has now won by margins ranging from two to 74 points, which reflects a squad that has been tested across every game environment. Close wins are not always satisfying, but they build the kind of late-game nerve that no practice drill can replicate. Follow the rest of the Sunshine team’s schedule on Instagram at @flcoastalprep.
