Florida Coastal Prep’s Sunshine team stayed perfect with a 69-60 road win at Southland Christian on Tuesday, the squad’s fifth consecutive victory and its second away win of the season.

Road wins at this level of prep basketball require a different composure than home wins — unfamiliar floors, hostile environments, and the natural tendency for visiting teams to lose their defensive focus in the first quarter. The Sunshine team did not fall into any of those traps against Southland Christian. FCP built a lead over the first three quarters by keeping possessions organized and staying active on the glass, then managed the nine-point advantage efficiently in the fourth despite Southland’s efforts to chip away. The defense was especially consistent in the second half, when Southland attempted to run more and force the Spartans into scramble situations — FCP’s backcourt communication and transition awareness prevented easy baskets at the rim and kept the margin from tightening to single digits.

Five-and-zero is a remarkable record for any prep team through late January, and the Sunshine squad has earned it against genuine competition — IMG Academy, BCAT Orange, Balboa School, Specially Fit Academy, and now Southland Christian. The wins have come by different margins and in different game environments, which speaks to the squad’s versatility. Follow this group’s full schedule on Instagram at @flcoastalprep.
