Why International Players Choose FCP

The United States has the world's most developed college basketball system — 362 Division I programs, thousands of Division II and NAIA schools, and a direct pathway to professional basketball leagues globally. American coaches actively recruit international talent, and the right prep year in Florida can be the bridge that connects your game to a full scholarship offer.

What FCP offers international players:

  • NCAA eligibility guidance: International transcripts must be evaluated and translated. FCP staff helps navigate the NCAA Eligibility Center process specific to your country of origin.
  • College recruiting exposure: Your film reaches D1, D2, and NAIA coaches actively looking for international talent. FCP manages the outreach and keeps your profile in front of coaches throughout the recruiting cycle.
  • Academic support: All players attend accredited coursework. English language support is available for players whose first language is not English.
  • Year-round Florida training: Fort Walton Beach's climate means 365 days of outdoor and indoor training. No weather delays. No offseason.
  • Housing and daily life: FCP coordinates housing for international players who need accommodation, including meals, local transportation, and cultural orientation.
  • Competitive schedule: International players compete in national showcases, tournaments, and events where D1 coaches are evaluating — not just local circuits unknown to college programs.

NCAA Rules for International Players

International players must meet the same NCAA Division I eligibility standards as American players: 16 approved core courses, minimum 2.3 GPA (on the sliding scale), and a qualifying ACT or SAT score. However, the transcript evaluation process is different — FCP helps players navigate this with country-specific guidance so your academic record is presented correctly to the Eligibility Center.

F-1 Student Visa — What You Need to Know

Student Visa (F-1) for Basketball Players

To attend FCP legally and compete, most international players require an F-1 student visa. FCP is a SEVIS-registered institution and provides the I-20 documentation required to apply for your visa at a US Embassy or Consulate in your home country.

  • FCP issues Form I-20 after your enrollment is confirmed
  • You apply for your F-1 visa at the nearest US Embassy — typically 6–12 weeks before your program start date
  • Visa approval is required before you travel — FCP can advise on timing and documentation
  • Canadians do not require a visa to study in the US but do need SEVIS documentation

Start this process early — allow at least 3–4 months before your intended arrival date.
