Basketball Built for Military Families

Basketball Built for Military Families

Serving Eglin AFB, Hurlburt Field, and the Emerald Coast Military Community

A Basketball Home for Military Families on the Emerald Coast

If you're a military family stationed at Eglin AFB or Hurlburt Field, you already know how hard it is to keep your kid in a real basketball program through deployments, TDYs, and PCS moves. Florida Coastal Prep was built with you in mind — a stable, year-round basketball home minutes from both bases, run by coaches who understand the rhythm of military life on the Florida Panhandle.

Why Emerald Coast Military Families Choose FCP

Minutes from Eglin and Hurlburt. FCP operates in Fort Walton Beach — the same community that houses the gates of Eglin AFB (the largest Air Force base by land area in the United States) and Hurlburt Field (home of Air Force Special Operations Command). For most families living on or near base, practice is a short drive, not a logistical project.

A structured program, not a rec league. Your kid will train with full-time basketball coaches in a purpose-built indoor facility. Skills development, conditioning, film, and organized game play — the same standard we hold for our national high school and post-grad athletes, scaled down for the right age group.

PCS-flexible enrollment. Military families rarely get the luxury of enrolling on the first day of the season. We pro-rate, we make room mid-season, and we keep paperwork light so your kid can be on the court within days of arriving in town.

Automatic military discount. FCP Sports applies the Early Bird rate year-round for military and DoD families — no waiting for a promotion window, no codes to chase down. Bring a base ID and it's handled.

Coaches who understand military life. Deployments, TDYs, back-to-back PCS moves — the staff here has worked with enough military families to know what flexibility actually looks like. We're not going to bench your kid for missing two weeks while the other parent is downrange.

One Program for Youth, One for College-Track Athletes

Ages 5–18 — FCP Sports. Camps, leagues, skills training, private lessons, and open gym. This is where most Eglin and Hurlburt families start. Learn more at fcpsports.org — including camps, training, and league play.

High school & post-graduate — Florida Coastal Prep. A residential basketball program targeting college scholarships for serious athletes in grades 9–12 and post-grad. See the high school program and post-grad program for details on competition, housing, and placement.

Accommodations for PCS, Deployment, and TDY Families

Every accommodation below is standard — not a favor, not a one-off. If you're active-duty, Reserve, Guard, DoD civilian, or a military spouse, these apply to you.

Automatic Military / DoD Discount

FCP Sports applies the Early Bird rate year-round for military and DoD families. No codes, no promotion window — show a base ID, get the rate.

Pro-Rated Mid-Session Enrollment

PCS orders rarely match the basketball calendar. We pro-rate tuition so families arriving mid-season pay for the time they're actually here.

Roster Flexibility During Deployments

When one parent is downrange, schedules shift. We work with the remaining parent on pickup, missed sessions, and attendance — no penalties for deployment-driven absences.

Documentation & Transition Help

Base ID verification, simple enrollment paperwork, and referrals to local housing, schools, and pediatric resources if you're new to the area.

What Fort Walton Beach Offers Military Basketball Families

Proximity to both bases. Fort Walton Beach sits between Eglin AFB and Hurlburt Field, with the Niceville / Valparaiso / Navarre corridor feeding right in. From most on-base or off-base housing in the area, FCP is a short drive.

Year-round indoor basketball. Florida heat is real. Our indoor facility means practice happens the same way in July as it does in January — no weather cancellations, no outdoor-only workarounds.

A strong military community. The Emerald Coast has one of the largest concentrations of active-duty Air Force and special operations families in the country. Your kid will not be the only new kid in town — that shared experience matters on a team.

Good schools nearby. Fort Walton Beach High School, Choctawhatchee High School, Niceville High School, and Navarre High School are the primary feeders for local basketball. Our athletes who attend these schools stay in our development track year-round. Learn more about the Fort Walton Beach area.

Housing options for out-of-area players. If your high schooler or post-grad is joining from outside the Panhandle — for example, from a family member still stationed elsewhere — FCP offers a residential housing program for national-track athletes.

Military Family FAQ

We're PCS-ing to Eglin mid-year. Can my kid still join a team?

Yes. FCP Sports enrolls year-round, and mid-season additions are standard for us. We'll pro-rate tuition and get your kid onto the right team within a week of arrival in most cases. Reach out before your move date if you want us to hold a roster spot.

What happens if we get deployment orders halfway through the season?

We work with the remaining parent on attendance, pickup, and schedule adjustments. Deployment-driven absences don't cost your kid their roster spot, and we won't penalize missed sessions during the deployment window. If you need to pause and restart later, we'll arrange that too.

Do you offer the military discount for both FCP Sports and main FCP?

FCP Sports (ages 5–18) applies an automatic Early Bird rate year-round for military and DoD families. For the main FCP residential program (high school and post-grad), we review military family pricing case-by-case — reach out directly and we'll work with you.

Can my high-schooler do the FCP high school program while we're stationed at Hurlburt?

Yes. If you're local to the Emerald Coast, your athlete can participate in the FCP high school program as a day student — no housing required. We have athletes from Fort Walton Beach, Niceville, Navarre, and surrounding communities who commute in daily.

Are there other military kids in the program?

Yes. Given our location on the Florida Panhandle, military families make up a meaningful share of our youth roster in any given season. Your kid will not be the only one with a parent at Eglin or Hurlburt.

What's the closest base — Eglin or Hurlburt?

Both are close. Fort Walton Beach is directly adjacent to Eglin AFB, and Hurlburt Field is a short drive west. Most military families on the Emerald Coast — whether stationed at Eglin, Hurlburt, Duke Field, or 7th Special Forces Group at Eglin — can reach FCP without a major commute.
