What’s next for FCP after storm week? The rest of our teams head to Jackson for the 4th Annual Mississippi JUCO/Post Grad Jamboree on Oct. 17-18, while the two teams that played in Orlando this weekend get a break from games. Everyone is safe, and I couldn’t be prouder of how our guys stuck together through a week none of us planned.
If you missed how we handled Hurricane Isaias, the practices in Tallahassee, and the trip to Orlando, I wrote about it in Safe and On the Road: FCP’s Storm Week. This post is about what comes next.
How did FCP’s All-American Jamboree weekend in Orlando go?
Coach Tyler led two of our teams, one post-grad and one high school, at the All-American Jamboree in Orlando. Between them, six games were on the schedule from Saturday night through Sunday, against Gillion Basketball Academy, Prestige Worldwide, Montreal Prep, DME Blue, Toronto Terror, and Hills Academy.

Thank you, Coach Tyler, for taking great care of our guys on the road. Here’s the group before the jamboree:
What is the Mississippi JUCO/Post Grad Jamboree?
The Mississippi JUCO/Post Grad Jamboree is an annual preseason showcase in Jackson, Mississippi, for junior college and post-grad teams. JUCO is short for junior college, a two-year school where players can compete and earn credits before moving on to a four-year program. A post-grad year is an extra year of school, training, and games after high school graduation, before college. That’s the heart of our post-grad basketball program.
According to the organizers, every team is guaranteed at least three games, and coaches from D1, D2, D3, NAIA, and JUCO programs are expected to attend. NAIA is the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, a college athletics association separate from the NCAA. If you want to know where JUCO players go next, our guide to the top JUCO conferences where college coaches recruit is a good place to start.
For us, preseason games are important tools for fine-tuning and evaluation. Every possession is film, and every game helps our coaches see where each player is and what he needs to work on. You can see where past Spartans have landed on our college commitments page.

Happy Birthday, Mr. Chibbs
Kenny Anderson turned 56 on Friday, Oct. 9. NBA All-Star, Georgia Tech great, and a coach who pours into our guys every time he steps in the gym. The game gave him a lot, and he keeps giving it back. Thank you for everything, Coach Kenny Anderson.
